What does shipping cost?

Shipping costs vary state by state and the time of the year due to many factors including fuel costs. As a rule of thumb, shipping typically ranges from $2 - $4 per mile from our factory in Spokane, Washington. 

Can I pick up my cabin from the factory?

The short answer is “Yes” however be aware that your rugged cabin weighs over 6,000 lbs. depending on the options that you select and you would be responsible for all liability. We highly recommend that you let us handle transportation.

How long does it take to build a Rugged Cabin?

When you are ready to order, give us a call and we can give you an accurate estimate on the lead time to shipping your Rugged Cabin. We usually are able to ship within 30 - 90 days depending on how busy we are at the time.

Are discounts available?

Bulk discounts are available and are made on a case by case basis. In an effort to make the most affordable cabin possible, we are not able to offer discounts for individual orders.

Do you offer financing?

We do not currently offer financing but can help you work with your bank to find appropriate financing options.

Can I move my Rugged Cabin?

Yes, but you must ensure that all interior items are properly secured including all furniture, stoves, and other accessories. 

Is a foundation required?

Foundations are not typically required, but you will want to check with your local building codes. Proper foundations will extend the life of your Rugged Cabin by helping ensure the underside remains dry and keep your cabin from settling and losing it’s level. We suggest 4 concrete piers that extend below the frost line, but other options include concrete blocks, or a simple gravel bed. You want to keep the underside dry and the cabin level. 

Is there any site preparation required?

For delivery, we must be able to drive a flatbed truck to the site and have ample room to set your cabin on a foundation or leveled area.

Will the metal rust?

The short answer is Yes. Shipping containers are designed to transport goods in harsh, humid, salty conditions and typically have a lifespan of 10-20 years. Your Rugged Cabin may rust, but CorTen steel creates a protective coating that inhibits further rusting. Your cabin will remain weatherproof for your lifetime.

How many people can a Rugged Cabin sleep?

It depends on the sleeping setup. A Rugged Cabin can fit 5 bunk beds comfortably, sleeping 10 people. Or 5 people in cots. 

Do you offer toilets?

We do not currently offer a toilet option but are actively working on creating a plumbing package as well as an outhouse. Our experience with composting and incinerating toilets has been sub-par and we want to make sure we are providing good options to our customers. Please check back soon for more information.

Is there any assembly required?

Your Rugged Cabin comes completely assembled and ready to go. If you ordered additional options and accessories there may be very minor setup due to securing the load for shipping. In that case, we will provide you with detailed instructions and are always available by phone.

How do I order a Rugged Cabin?

Contact us by phone, email or our contact form. We will work with you to customize your Rugged Cabin and provide you with an accurate shipping estimate. 50% payment is required upon placing your order and 50% upon completion. Your Rugged Cabin will typically be shipped within 30 - 90 days of ordering.

What maintenance is required?

We built the Rugged Cabin to be maintenance free. Some of the available options and accessory may require minimal maintenance, but you’ll never need to worry about setting mouse traps or fixing a leaking roof.

What weather conditions can a Rugged Cabin handle?

Rugged Cabins can handle any climate with the appropriate heating and cooling options. Our shelters are everywhere from Alaska to Florida. While the standard R-13 insulation is adequate for most situations we do offer insulation upgrades for extreme climates.

Does the Rugged Cabin meet my local building code?

Most counties don’t require permitting for structures under 200 square feet. We will work with you to meet any required codes.
